Rants and Raves

This little teenage peace of shit thought he was hot stuff, got wasted and drove the wrong way on the interstate the other night. Of course the end of that story is he slammed his Wrangler into a car, killing the two people inside. In the news biz I hear this stuff all the time, but this one really bothers me -- especially after I checked out the kid's myspace page. He reminds me of the no-good assholes I went to high school with. Also, I was on the interstate in the same spot where that couple got killed only a half hour earlier. Sure my 4Runner would probably have crushed the brat, but still -- it could be my charred remains investigators were looking at.

The kid's page is full of get-better messages from his friends. I really wanted to write in a warning to all of them: Act stupid and you'll spend the rest of your life haunted by what you did and maybe even the next 10 years in jail -- that is if you survive. I told my mom the story and I hope she passes it on to my little brother. She said that teen better hope he doesn't wake up because his life is over. As a journalist I'm supposed to put my feelings aside and write objectively. I did that all day at the office, but now I just want to condemn.

Ok, I had to get that rant out of my system. I've been a busy girl so I haven't had much time to blog lately. I've decided dating looks more fun on TV than it is in reality and that when you have a busy social life reading the newspaper becomes a chore instead of a relaxing pasttime. I've also decided that if Keith Urban isn't past his womanizing days, he's free to use me anytime. I went to see him in concert with my sis and Tracey and he was awesome! That hair is so sexy. Deep down I still have dreams of marrying a musician. Although I have enjoyed dating guys with body-building muscles in the past, there is nothing that compares to the defined arms and chest that come from guitar playing. Besides -- having talent is hot. Wow, that sounded a little too Paris Hilton.

Anyhow, in honor of my Keith Urban kick, here's a few lyrics for y'all:

You look good in my shirt
When you walked up behind me and covered my eyes
And whispered in my ear, guess who
I rattled off names like I really didn't know
But all along I knew it was you
And, the longer we talked, the more we laughed
And wondered why we didn't last
It had been a long time, but later last night
Baby, we caught up real fast
And maybe it's a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is you're sure looking
Good in my shirt
That's right
You look good in my shirt
Well now I'm not saying that we solved overnight
Every way that we went wrong
Oh, but what I'm seeing I'd sure love seeing
Every morning from now on
And maybe it's a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is you're sure looking
Good in my shirt
C'mon now
Aww that's right
Oh you look so fine
And maybe it's a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is you're sure looking
Good in my shirt
And maybe it's a little too early
To know if this is gonna work
All I know is you're sure looking
Good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt
You look good in my shirt

Week in Review

Considering I spent most of my weekend sleeping, I've been pretty busy lately. Friday night I went to the Bobcats game with the Web team from work and we had awesome seats. We sat on the court with the real VIPs, including NASCAR's Kurt Busch and Jimmie Johnson, Mugsy Bogues, and Panthers Steve Smith and Brentson Buckner. We could stretch our legs from our comfy chairs -- which we didn't even need to leave to get refreshments. The seats came with a menu you just had to wave to order food. Pretty sweet. Even though we lost the game, the team played pretty well and we had a blast. Kyle provided us with the photos, and I figured I'd attach one to show just how close we were, and the view I had to look at for the last quarter of the game. Kyle, of course, was rather pleased by the sight.

Anyhow, after that I went out for drinks with Tracey and Stephanie. Those were on top of the drinks I had on my boss' tab before the game. I ended up sucking down like three glasses of water for my last two hours at the bar I was so dehydrated -- and most of you probably know how much I hate water!

Then Tracey came by Sat. and showed me her wedding dress (you'll get no details here, it's top secret) and we went to see Brokeback Mountain. I thought it was excellent. Beautifully written and acted, top-notch directing, good cinematography, etc. -- but it was very sad. I could relate to it though, relate to Jack Twist (Jake Gyllenhall's character). He spent 20 years hoping and waiting for the relationship to go to the next level, for Ennis to give him what he wanted, but it never happened. His longing and pain were really pallpable. I can't believe the critics are raving so much about Heath Ledger, it was Jake's performance that blew me away. The movie was very moving and I think it has a good shot at Best Picture, but I still think Walk the Line should have been nominated. That was a movie I loved and one that let you out of the theater feeling good about life and love. (P.S., Although Jake and Heath play gay men, they are still way hot cowboys and I could watch them for two hours any day.)

Anyway, I have a big few days ahead. My friend Mike, who I haven't seen since graduation, will be in town Thurs.-Sun. so I'll probably get together with him a few times. Then my best friend from college, Tiff, will be in town with her husband on Sun.-Mon. So yay, happy times!
