Post of the Month
I'm determined to post at least once in July, so here it is. I've been busy out of my mind. I had a few mental breakdowns and worked my butt off for the first two weeks, then headed to Minneapolis for training the third week. The things I learned may prove very helpful in guiding the Web site, if anyone will stop and listen to me. I got a chance to look at a lot of statistics and I'm convinced the people in charge, the sales and upper management people that attend the Web meeting, have it all wrong. They are all nuts about VIDEO, VIDEO, VIDEO. Hey peeps, that's what drives only about 3 percent of people to the site! Correct me if I'm wrong, but people visit news sites for lots of news content and to check out pictures from cool scenes, like fires and accidents. If they want the site to grow, they need to add more content like that, and I'm at my max. If they want more content, they need to hire another person. We have to think like WRAL and other such major sites which have true Web personnel, not just one Web producer backed up by associate producers for the shows.Sorry, it's frustrating. I just don't know how to explain to them that we need to hire another person. I'm going to just imply it when I meet with my supervisor on Friday. A lot of other sites are hiring people to do just video and slideshows -- I plan to mention that. And I plan to tell her that I don't have the time for boring ass projects like political profiles and an immigration page.
Again, sorry for the shop talk, on to more exciting news! I have expanded my little family. I got a puppy. I can finally afford one financially, if not time-wise. I ended up with a little pooch. I checked out various sized and just felt it wouldn't be fair to a medium or large dog to be cooped up in this apartment with two cats. There's not enough space, and it wouldn't get enough exercise because I'm at work for so long. So, I got my little pooch who will hopefully scare away intruders with his bark, as well as alert my neighbors if something is going down. Also, now I've met all my neighbors because I'm outside so much, so hopefully they'll look out for me a little now that they know I'm a nice girl who sits outside with her puppy all the time. Anyhow, now I have my own little family to come home too and it's very comforting. Now all I need to do is save some money so I can buy us our own space! (I'll put up pics later, it's not letting me right now.)
